Tech Bytes: Premenos Software Translates EDI Data

Premenos Corp. said it is shipping the latest version of its electronic data interchange translation software for Unix and Windows NT operating platforms.

The software, EDI/Open 3.1, frees users from having to translate data into a standard EDI format.

"A number of our trading partners send us data in formats different from those outlined by EDI standards," said Robert Johnson, business process specialist at GTE Supply. "Some of our GTE offices use their own purchase order formats. We currently have two different business processes supporting two types of documents." EDI/Open "gives us a more integrated electronic commerce solution."

Oracle Corp. participated in prerelease testing and found version 3.1 "exceeded requirements for meeting our peak volume during our recently completed yearend close," said Brock Blatter, Oracle's director of information technology.
