Tech Bytes: Purchases on Internet Added to Phone Bills

Nettaxi Inc. has become the first on-line community Web site to use eCharge Corp.'s payment processing system.

Billings for Internet purchases appear on regular monthly telephone bills, similar to 900-number phone services.

"By offering the option of charging services and purchases to their phone bills, we will lower the barriers of entry for community service offerings and e-commerce capability," said Robert Rositano Jr., chief executive officer of Nettaxi.

Through eCharge, Nettaxi gains access to customers who do not have credit cards or choose not to use them on-line.

Seattle-based eCharge has also announced compatibility with Open Market Inc.'s Transact 4 Internet commerce software. And Nettaxi struck a deal with Cybercash Inc. to help distribute the InstaBuy electronic wallet program.
