Tech Bytes: Software Alliance AidsMutual Customers

Entrust Technologies Inc. said it entered into a "strategic relationship" with Netscape Communications Corp. to ensure joint customers can make use of Entrust's data security capabilities.

Entrust, majority-owned by Nortel of Canada, said its public key encryption infrastructure will be integrated with Netscape's Communicator Pro client software. Special "Entrust-Ready" versions of the software will readily provide for certificate management and other security components in intranet, messaging, and collaborative work group systems.

The joint effort "responds directly to the needs of our joint commercial and government customers," said Todd Rulon-Miller, Netscape's senior vice president of worldwide sales.

Entrust Technologies chief executive officer said the deal serves any users of Web applications, "including E-mail and E-forms and electronic commerce, to have enhanced security."
