Tech Bytes: Wells, AT&T to Help Set Up Web 'Storefronts'

Wells Fargo & Co. and AT&T have announced a program to help merchants set up electronic "storefronts" on the World Wide Web.

Wells Fargo is supplying credit card processing services, while AT&T is providing Web site hosting and telecommunications support. "We are joining together to be able to offer a complete Internet solution to small-business customers," said Debra Rossi, senior vice president and manager of electronic payment solutions at Wells Fargo.

Wells Fargo already has more than 1,000 merchants doing business on the Internet, Ms. Rossi said. The partnership with AT&T is meant to enhance service for those merchants and to lure in new ones.

"This is all about acquisition of new merchants for both of us, it's about retention of existing clients for both of us," said Keith Olsen, director of new channel development for AT&T.
