Tesco Personal Finance Group Ltd., an arm of the U.K. supermarket chain Tesco PLC, said it plans to open a customer call center in Glasgow next year, the latest step in the company's efforts to expand in financial services.
The center, scheduled to open in the first half, would create about 800 jobs, a Tesco representative said last week.
The Cheshunt, England, retailer took control of its financial services venture last year by buying the 50% stake owned by Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC.
Tesco operates a network of about 2,700 automated teller machines and issues MasterCard- and Visa-branded cards. The representative did not immediately give details about how many cards Tesco issues.
The company also plans to open 30 bank branches in its supermarkets; it says it has almost 6 million customer accounts.
