The bank bond market was quiet Tuesday as investors awaited news of banks' third-quarter results.

No new issues had emerged by midafternoon. Their absence suggested that banks, too, are waiting until their quarterly earnings are made public.

The Center for International Business Cycle Research has launched its Index of Financial Services.

In August the indicator's annualized growth rate for activity in the sector increased to 5.8%, from 4.6% in July.
