Thrift Regulator Promotes Karr

WASHINGTON -- The Office of Thrift Supervision has promoted veteran regulator Ronald N. Karr to the No. 2 post in its seven-state central region, based in Chicago.

As deputy director of the central region, which oversees 686 thrifts, he reports to Chicago regional director Stuart Brafman.

For the past year, Mr. Karr has run the regulator's Topeka area office, which supervises 92 thrifts in Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas.

The Topeka office is part of the Midwest region, based in Dallas.

Experience in Midwest

Mr. Karr, who began his regulatory career in 1974, has held assignments throughout the Midwest.

The thrift industry in the 14-state region - from Missouri to Colorado and from North Dakota to Texas - has contracted sharply in recent years because of failures and consolidations.
