Top Swiss Banking Lobbyist to Retire

Switzerland's banking lobby said Monday that Chief Executive Urs Roth will step down Sept. 16, several months after reaching retirement age.

The Swiss Bankers Association said it will report in due course on its search for a successor.

Roth, who is 63, has been the association's CEO since 2001, and the lobby became a vocal proponent of the Swiss finance sector.

Its latest move was to persuade the Swiss government to support a withholding tax on hidden offshore accounts held by European Union citizens in Switzerland.
