UJB and Summit Complete Merger

UJB Financial Corp. and Summit Bancorp. have completed their $1.2 billion merger and now will operate as Summit Bancorp.

The combined company is New Jersey's largest independent bank with $22 billion in assets and $18 billion in deposits at more than 300 branches in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.

The company will compete for business in the state with the nation's second-highest per capita income with an array of products ranging from discount brokerage and proprietary mutual funds to employee benefit programs.

Under the terms of the agreement, UJB Financial exchanged 0.90 share of its common stock for each share of Summit's common.
