Umpqua hires first chief risk officer

Umpqua Holdings in Portland, Ore., has named its first chief risk officer.

Dave Shotwell, already the chief credit officer, has been given the additional title of chief risk officer, the $25 billion-asset company said Wednesday.

Shotwell’s additional responsibilities include oversight of Umpqua’s enterprise risk management program, including data governance, compliance and information security.

“Umpqua has reached a size and market position that require a strong, integrated risk management program in order to achieve our long-term financial performance goals,” CEO Cort O’Haver said in a news release.

Shotwell has been Umpqua’s chief credit officer since 2015 and has worked for the company for 15 years.

Umpqua this summer introduced its NextGen plan to boost profit through tech upgrades, improvements in fee-based business lines and a greater focus on corporate banking.
