Union Bank of Switzerland said Mark C. Francis has been appointed a managing director in the corporate finance/mergers and acquisitions group of its New York-based securities subsidiary, UBS Securities Inc., focusing on cross-border and domestic transactions.

The position is newly created and is part of the firm's strategy to strengthen its North American M&A capabilities.

Before joining UBS, Mr. Francis spent 13 years with Lazard Brothers & Co. Ltd., London, where he served on the board of directors from 1989 to 1991. From 1991 to 1993, he was the European representative partner at Lazard Freres & Co. in New York, responsible for developing and executing cross-border transactions, particularly between the United States and Europe.
