Urban Bankers Elect Shalley Jones President

Shalley A. Jones was elected president recently of the National Association of Urban Bankers.

Ms. Jones is first vice president of Chase Federal Bank, a Miami thrift with $1.3 billion in assets. She took the group's helm after a year as president-elect of the association of minority bankers and more than 10 years' active participation in it.

She assumed the presidency at the association's recent annual convention in Chicago, succeeding Tony B. Oglesby, group vice president of Trust Company Bank, Atlanta, who was named to head the advisory committee.

The association, based in Washington, has 33 chapters and 1,764 members.

The new vice president/president-elect is Herbert W. Whiteman Jr., vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He is slated to become president in June 1992.

Reelected national treasurer was Randall E. Holts, vice president, Barnett Bank of South Florida, Miami. Barbara N. Hicks, senior services officer, Citicorp Real Estate Inc., Dallas, was reelected national secretary.

The association presented its Robert J. Samuels Award, named for its founder, to Nathaniel C. Harris Jr., president of the NatWest Community Development Corp. unit of National Westminster Bancorp, Jersey City, N.J. The corporate award recipient was Northern Trust Co., Chicago, for outstanding support of the group's mission.
