U.S. Banknote acquires Thomas De La Rue unit.

NEW YORK -- United States Banknote Corp., a printer of currency and secure financial documents, said it has completed the previously announced acquisition of a Brazilian security printer affiliated with Thomas De La Rue Ltd. of Britain.

U.S. Banknote paid 944,000 of its shares and $45 million in cash for the unit, Thomas De La Rue Grafica e Servicos Ltda.

The Brazilian company had unaudited pretax earnings of $8 million to $9 million for the March 31 fiscal year.

The company is expected to add $5 million to $6 million for the March 31 fiscal year.

The company is expected to add $5 million to $6 million to U.S. Banknote's pretax earnings for calendar 1993.
