Verifone in deal with National Transaction.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Verifone Inc. announced the signing of a reseller agreement to provide its transaction automation systems through National Transaction Network Inc.

The deal was designed to respond to the growing demand for debit card, credit card, and check authorization transactions in supermarket checkout lanes.

"Until now, merchants could choose Verifone or NTN, but not both," said Roger Hitchcock, general manager of Verifone's retail business unit.

National Transaction Network of Hudson, Mass., is the leading supplier of payments software to supermarkets, having installed its system in 22,000 checkout lanes of such stores as Albertson's, Kroger, and Giant Eagle. It will develop software for Verifone's Omni 490 customer-activated systems.
