Verifone Names Former Apple Executive To Succeed Its Longtime CEO Next

Verifone Inc. has named Robin Abrams to become president and chief executive officer next year.

She will succeed Hatim Tyabji, who has been chairman, president, and CEO for 12 years. Mr. Tyabji announced last month that he would retire at yearend.

Ms. Abrams, 46, oversees sales, marketing, and operations for the company's Americas Group, which includes the United States, Canada, and Latin America. Verifone is a subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard Co.

Ms. Abrams came to Verifone in March of last year from Apple Computer; she was vice president and general manager of Apple Americas. Earlier in her career she held managerial positions at Unisys and Norwest Bank.

Ms. Abrams was selected for the post by Mr. Tyabji and William Russell, vice president of Hewlett-Packard's enterprise systems group.

"Robin has a broad knowledge of the company's business and has proved to be an intelligent, thoughtful, and decisive leader," Mr. Tyabji said.
