Vermont Financial acquires West Mass.

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- Vermont Financial Services Corp. said it has completed its acquisition of West Mass Bankshares.

West Mass' subsidiary, United Savings Bank, became a 100%-owned subsidiary of Vermont Financial. United will continue to operate under its Massachusetts banking charter and its current name, with Francis Lemay remaining chairman, president, and chief executive.

Vermont Financial, parent of Vermont National Bank of Brattleboro, has grown to $1.2 billion in total assets, with 32 banking offices in Vermont and six in western Massachusetts.
