Video Sales System Set for Launch

A Charlotte, N.C., company is to introduce on Friday a low-cost videoconferencing system that will allow bank salespeople in remote locations to communicate face to face with customers.

The system, packaged in a portable kiosk for marketing insurance, brokerage, and other nontraditional bank products, will be sold by Personal Financial Assistant Inc.

The kiosk can be used in locations away from branches as well as in branches. Using technology developed in Norway, the unit will have the ability to display "full motion" video images on a personal computer using standard telephone lines. Full-motion video technology resembles standard television reception.

Until now, the kiosks could provide video images of salespeople located at the bank's main office via special high-speed telephone lines that are more expensive than regular links.
