Visa processing sites upgraded in capacity.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Visa International said Tuesday that its processing centers in McLean, Va., and Basingstoke, England, are fully operational after an extensive capacity upgrade.

Each site, called a "super center," is capable of handling payment volume for the entire global Visa system. Each center can handle the other's load if necessary and can serve as backup for all national and regional Visa centers.

The super centers consolidate the work handled previously by four centers. The total capacity is 1,100 authorization messages per second and 22 million sales drafts per daily cycle.
