Wachovia Corp., Winston-Salem, N.C., has promoted senior vice presidents Stanhope A. Kelly, Robert S. Kniejski, and Beverly B. Wells to executive vice president.

Mr. Kelly remains head of Wachovia's consumer banking division. He is responsible for marketing, and consumer, small-business and telephone-based services.

Mr. Kniejski leads the personal financial services division, which includes trust and investment management, insurance services, and private banking.

Ms. Wells remains head of the consumer credit services division.

Wachovia also promoted Jean E. Davis to executive vice president and director of human resources. She succeeded executive vice president J. Kenneth Torreyson, who was given the newly created title of director of management development.

Ms. Davis had recently been on assignment since June helping coordinate the Virginia acquisitions of Central Fidelity Banks in Richmond and Jefferson Bankshares in Charlottesville.

Before that she had been the regional vice president and executive in charge of Wachovia's Piedmont Triad region.
