Wamu's Retail Banking Head Steps Down

Washington Mutual Inc., the Seattle company that is trying to grow its retail banking arm as it downsizes its mortgage business, will have new leadership spearheading the effort.

The $320 billion-asset company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Monday that it had replaced James B. Corcoran as president of retail banking. Stephen J. Rotella, the company's president, will run the retail bank while Wamu searches for a permanent successor, Wamu said in the filing,
