Webster Financial Of Conn. Hires Tech Chief from A Thomson Unit

Webster Financial Corp. in Waterbury, Conn., has hired Mark J. Tarmy as executive vice president and chief information officer.

Mr. Tarmy was chief technology officer of Thomson Securities Information Services, a subsidiary of Thomson Financial Securities Data Co. in Newark, N.J. The company is a unit of American Banker's parent company, Thomson Corp. of Toronto.

Before joining Thomson in New York, Mr. Tarmy was the manager of capital markets systems at the Federal National Mortgage Corp. in Washington. Earlier he was a senior consultant at Andersen Consulting there.

Webster Financial Corp. has $9 billion of assets and 110 branches. Mr. Tarmy will be in charge of strategic technology planning, enterprisewide systems, and telecommunications facilities, as well as the integration of technology into the company's products and services.
