Bank stocks staged a halfhearted recovery on. Wednesday, after two days of losses.

PNC Bank Corp. rose 25 cents, to $30.125. Bankers Trust New York Corp. was up 25 cents, at $80.25, while NBD Bancorp gained 25 cents, to $33.25, in late afternoon trading.

Others continued to lose ground. Keycorp fell $1, to $38.625; First Chicago Corp. $1.375, to $45.75; MBNA Corp. $1, to $32.625; and First Interstate Bancorp $1.125, to $62.75.

Also down were were Norwest Corp., off 50 cents to $26.625; Wachovia Corp., off 62.5 cents at $34.50; and Bank of Boston Corp., down 87.5 cents, to $24.625.
