Major banking stocks were broadly mixed Wednesday in slow pre-holiday trading as stocks rebounded somewhat from Tuesday's mostly lower session.

In the broader market, the Dow Jones industrial average jumped 17.04 points after declining 10.06 points on Tuesday on interest rate fears.

On Wednesday, the blue-sector reacted to a jump in the bond market, which responded to a better-than-expected five-year note auction by the Treasury.
