Websites Still Work

Web-based platforms still offer the most features for consumers to manage their accounts, and many consumers have not yet switched over to banking from their smartphones, the consulting firm Corporate Insight said after handing out its latest Bank Monitor Awards.

BB&T in Winston-Salem, N.C., won kudos for its website's ease of use and ability to fill out applications online.

Sales Pitch

Ally Bank, a large auto lender, included a listing of all its products and services on the part of its website accessible only to customers with a password. Most banks put such information on the public part of their sites, sometimes causing customers difficulty in switching back and forth.

Citigroup is frequently known more for its credit cards and its investment bank than its retail-branch network. But Citi's consumer website won the most awards from Corporate Insight, based on ease of use, number of features and other factors.

Bank of America, as well as Citigroup, were praised by Corporate Insight for giving customers the ability to handle many banking functions themselves online, such as requesting statements or copies of checks.
