Synovus Financial Corp. of Columbus, Ga., seems a step closer to naming a new head for its financial management group.
Richard Anthony, the company's president and chief executive, said its executives have interviewed seven candidates and "are closing in on a couple" of contenders.
"We're spending a lot of time and devoting a lot of attention to this particular leadership position in our company," he said during a Wednesday conference call to discuss second-quarter earnings.
In February, Walter A. "Sonny" Deriso Jr. resigned as a vice chairman of the company and the head of the group, which includes investment management, private banking, and insurance services. G. Sanders Griffith 3d, Synovus' general counsel and secretary, was named at the time to oversee the group on an interim basis.Paul Davis
