In Brief: Atlanta Team Joining Fannie Housing Initiative

ATLANTA - Atlanta Hawks basketball players are teaming with Fannie Mae to promote revitalization and homeownership in lower-income areas.

Players and coaches from the National Basketball Association will raise the program's profile by helping to rehabilitate two homes in the Atlanta area for low-income families. Fannie Mae is providing $75,000 for the renovations.

Fannie also will advertise during Hawks games, offering to send viewers free information about buying homes. The guides are available in Chinese, English, Haitian Creole, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

The program will continue with a homebuying fair Fannie and the Hawks will host in April.

The Hawks are the latest team to join Fannie's housing initiative. NBA teams in Boston, Cleveland, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., have also committed time to help restore neighborhoods in their markets, a Fannie Mae spokesman said.
