BRISTOL, Tenn. – The former treasurer of First Christian Church this week was found guilty of draining almost all of the $170,000 in the church’s accounts at United Southeast FCU over an eight-year period and using the money for his own purposes.
Jack Moore, 43, was sentenced to up to five years in prison and ordered to repay all of the funds and $2,600 to the credit union to cover the cost of providing copies of the cancelled checks.
Moore was fired from the First Christian Church in May 2006 after church officials found only about $200 in an account that should have contained nearly $200,000. He was arrested on charges alleging he'd used his position as volunteer treasurer to write $168,493.40 worth of checks to himself from the church's credit union account. Moore had attended the church all his life before volunteering to act as treasurer in 1998.
