CU Members Can 'Ask Jack' About Ongoing Crisis In Financial Sector

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-Some people may not know "Jack" about finance. Members Credit Union is looking to change that.

The $208-million Members Credit Union has launched its own blog, dubbed "Ask Jack," a reference to MCU's CEO, Jack Braswell Jr.

"This site allows members to ask our president questions about what they see, hear and read in the news," said Matt Davis, director of public relations for the 52,000-member credit union. "This provides them with honest, straightforward and trustworthy answers that they have largely not been exposed to."

Members CU has made marginal changes in its lending standards to minimize risk, Davis noted. "However, we have largely maintained our historical focus on helping as many members as possible with the borrowing needs while being responsible with the member assets we use to fund these loans."

Members CU is also participating in a cooperative advertising campaign spearheaded by the North Carolina Credit Union League.

"This campaign clearly describes the credit union difference, as well as the safety and soundness that our collective conservative approach to financial services has afforded," Davis said.

More than $88,000 has been raised among the two-dozen participating credit unions for the media effort, according to Davis.

Meanwhile, Members CU is confident lending opportunities remain.

"With news that GMAC is only making consumer loans to people with 700-plus credit scores, we feel confident we have a definite opportunity in that space.
