COLUMBIA, Mo. – CUNA reported yesterday it spent another $70,000 on independent radio ads and mailings to boost two candidates for House seats in the Midwest.

The newly expended funds included another $18,000 on direct mailings on behalf of Democratic State Rep. Judy Baker in her bid for Missouri's Ninth District House seat. CUNA has spent almost $100,000 over the last two weeks on radio ads and direct mailing to voters to support Baker–independently of Baker’s campaign, an unusual initiative by an out-of-state interest group.

Baker is running to replace six-term incumbent Kenny Hulshof, Republican, who left the House to run for Governor.

And yesterday CUNA reported it spend another $48,000 on radio ads to support Republican Lynn Jenkins, who is running for the Second District House seat in Kansas. CUNA has spent $194,000 on radio ads for Jenkins, who is running against incumbent Nancy Boyda, a freshman Democrat in the House.

CUNA has spent almost $300,000 on independent ads in those two House races over the past two weeks.
