CUs Reach 452,000 Young People With Financial Education

North Carolina led the way with just over 64,000 students being reached through 998 presentations. More presentations – a total of 1,909 – were given in Michigan, however, reaching a total of 45,985 students. Iowa was at the bottom of the field, with four presentations offered to a total of 102 students.

The figures were announced during NYIB’s recent annual conference. The group also reported that it continues to reach more students each year – 2010-11 saw an increase of nearly 40,000 students over last year and more than 70,000 additional students from 2008-09 – but the number of CU professionals taking part has dropped by almost 100, to this year’s total of 422. NYIB Chairman Rebecca Isaacs suggested that the decrease might be the result of turnover in credit unions as CUs attempt to do more with less staff.
