El Paso Employees FCU Evolves With Name Change

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Employees FCU, the city’s fourth-largest credit union, will grow with a new name starting Jan. 1, Evolve CU.

The name change for the $300-million credit union comes as the city’s biggest credit unions have adopted new monikers to de-emphasize the limits on their fields of membership. Fort Bliss FCU, for example, changed its name to FirstLight CU in 2005, and Government Employees CU to GECU.

“Evolve” reflects the credit union changing and evolving through the years to meet members’ needs, and the name also gives the credit union a platform for advertising, according to credit union officials, who say the other potential options were “Mission1” and “Fortuna.”

The name change is expected to cost the credit union about $3 million to effectuate, including signage, checks, slips and cards.
