PORTLAND, Ore.-A number of credit unions have announced new names and brands.
Among them, Northwest Resource FCU which will change its name to Trailhead CU effective June 3. The $92-million CU said the aim is to differentiate itself from the nine other CUs in Oregon with "Northwest" in their names. Along with the new name comes a new tagline: Small Enough to Know Better." The goal of the tagline is to use its "relatively smaller size as a competitive advantage." The name change and rebranding were led by Weber Marketing Group, Seattle.
In Erie, Penn., the former Erie General Electric FCU has changed its name to Widget FCU. The name change was prompted by a request from the original sponsor company, GE Transportation, that the CU remove "GE" or "General Electric" from the name. The $260-million, 77-year-old Widget FCU, will do business as Widget Financial.
In Clarksburg, Md., the $235-million Comstar FCU, a conglomeration of government CUs, is changing its name to Nymeo-an anagram of the word "money," and will promote itself as a "new way to look at money." The 80-year-old CU has during its life also been Monocacy FCU and Standards CU, in addition to Comstar.
