Hostage-Taking Robber Gets Life In Prison

OLYMPIA, Wash. – An armed robber who was shot twice and escaped after holding a TwinStar CU employee hostage in January was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The robbery ended with the hostage being freed by police and the robber fleeing. He was arrested in Olympia that night with two bullet wounds from the incident.

Michael Lar, 57, also is facing a variety of charges stemming from another robbery at the same credit union last year. The prosecutor’s office says it is pursuing the charge just in case the latest conviction is overturned on appeal.
