CHATSWORTH, Calif.-Matadors Community CU views its switch kit as a marketing tool, especially in light of the fees big banks are levying on their customers.
Matadors has stepped up advertising of its switch kit recently, and Marnie Nemcoff, VP of marketing, said not only does the kit make the changeover simpler for members, it promotes the credit union difference.
"Banks don't have these kits," she said. "It's not something a bank would do; work closely with someone to help them make an account transition. The kit shows that we are focused on the member."
Nemcoff said MCCU's switch kit advertising focus is educating members and consumers that the credit union has the kit. "Half of the battle of getting people to bring their checking account over is letting them know we have the switch kit."
The tool is comprised of forms to close the account, make an initial deposit, direct deposit, and automatic withdrawal. The kit is not on the credit union's website yet, but it is online internally for staff to download.
The latest anti-bank sentiment has not only increased the credit union's promotion of its switch kit-including touting it on Facebook and Twitter-MCCU is now paying people to open a free checking account. Advertising says: "Get free checking and a free debit card and we'll give you $25! It's been in the news... many banks will start charging customers to use their Debit Cards. MCCU will not charge you!"
