Local Government FCU Awards Laptops, Cash To 120 Graduating Seniors

RALEIGH, N.C. – Local Government Employees FCU has granted 120 graduating high school students with either a brand new laptop or $1,000 for textbooks as part of its annual scholarship program.

“Textbooks and laptops, both of which are now required at many schools, can add hundreds of dollars or more to the cost of getting an education. We hope these scholarships can help alleviate that burden,” said Maurice Smith, president of the $1.2 billion credit union.

In its 12th consecutive year, the LGFCU Scholarship Award recognizes a student’s academic excellence by maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, as well as high achievement in extracurricular activities. Financial need also is a consideration.
