Longtime CEO of Lakeview Federal Credit Union to retire

Sherry Cornell will retire as CEO of Lakeview Federal Credit Union in Ashtabula, Ohio, next month.

The $135 million-asset credit union said in an email Monday that she will be replaced by Jamie Ortiz, who worked as the fiscal manager for the Ashtabula County auditor’s office and as an auditor for Ernst & Young in Cleveland.

Ortiz also served as a board member and supervisory audit committee chairman for Lakeview FCU.

Cornell began her Lakeview career as a teller in 1980 when the institution was known as Union Carbide Metals Federal Credit Union. She became Lakeview’s CEO in 2002.

"Sherry strengthened the credit union’s vision of offering products that make it easy for members to use with no hidden agendas and keeping deposit rates and lending rates competitive," the company said in a statement.

Lakeview FCU earned $627,000 in 2020, compared with $861,000 the year before, according to call report data from the National Credit Union Administration.

In the first quarter of 2021, the credit union earned $117,000 compared to $153,000 in the year-ago quarter.
