PORTLAND, Maine A man who admitted sending two juveniles into a University CU branch to rob it a few days before Christmas 2011, on Monday was sentenced to four years and nine months in federal prison.
Duane Toothaker, 42, admitted he drove the two male juveniles, then age 15 and 16, to the credit union, wrote the note used in the robbery, told them how to commit it, waited in his van nearby while they robbed a teller, then drove them away from the scene and divided up the nearly $3,000 taken in the robbery.
Toothaker pleaded guilty in September to bank robbery and aiding and abetting such conduct.
The juveniles were convicted of theft in state court and sentenced to a Maine youth center, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. Toothaker faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced.
