Mortgage Rates Inch Downward

WASHINGTON – Mortgage rates eased this week, hovering near all-time lows, according to Freddie Mac.

The average for the 30-year, fixed-rate loan slipped to 3.38%, from 3.40% last week; while the average for the 15-year mortgage held steady at 2.65%.

ARM rates also held near record lows, with the average for the five-year ARM unchanged at 2.67%; and the average for the one-year ARM dipping to 2.57%, from 2.60% last week.

“Mortgage rates were flat to down a little this week amid reports that inflation remains contained,” said Frank Nothaft, chief economist for Freddie Mac.
