BROCKTON, Mass.-HarborOne CU was awarded a $100,000 grant from the National CU Foundation to help develop its recently launched multicultural banking center, the Foundation announced.
HarborOne opened the Center last September in its former headquarters in downtown Brockton.
The Center was created to help low and moderate-income residents, minorities and immigrants avoid predatory financial practices through education.
The foundation also issued a $20,000 grant to Union CU, Spokane, Wash., to help expand its "Step-Up" program aimed at expanding its reach to more than 500 local labor unions and their 550,000 workers.
The Step-Up Program helps workers access higher education, develop new skills, and take the next step in life: transitioning their education and skills with the changing economy to proactively avoid job displacement and find new career opportunities.
Union CU was known for 40 years as Inland Empire Trades CU, but changed its name earlier this year as part of an expansion of its field of membership to include members of any and all unions. The NCUF is issuing 14 "Innovation Grants" totaling $600,000 this fall.
