Part-Time Pastor Jailed For $400,000 CU Theft

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. – A 36-year-old Hudson River Community CU employee who also served as pastor of his upstate New York church was sentenced yesterday to three to nine years in state prison for stealing more than $400,000 from the credit union to pay bills and support his children.

Jason LaPierre stole the money over four years by forging approximately 300 cashier’s checks from the credit union and depositing them in his personal bank accounts.

State police arrested LaPierre in January after investigating thefts reported by Hudson River Community Credit Union in Corinth, where he worked in human resources and marketing.

LaPierre also was a minister at the River Church in Kingsbury in neighboring Warren County, 50 miles north of Albany.
