Play ball! PenFed signs 3-year deal with MLB's Washington Nationals

Pentagon Federal Credit Union, a $23.6 billion institution based in McLean, Va., has signed a sponsorship deal with the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball.

PenFed said the new three-year deal will expand upon a previous sponsorship and will designate a new, special area as “PenFed Military Appreciation Section” at right field in Nationals Park.

“PenFed has been supporting the national military community and the greater Washington community for 83 years,” PenFed CEO James Schenck said in a statement. “The Washington Nationals have played an integral role in these communities for 13 years. Now we are stepping up to the plate together. We are especially proud to sponsor the Military Appreciation Section at Nationals Park for veterans and active-duty servicemen and women and their families.”

PenFed’s sponsorship agreement also includes “significant” advertising within the stadium including a permanent outfield wall sign, home plate rotational signage and digital signage. PenFed will also sponsor the “PenFed Kids’ Fun Zone,” frequented by thousands of military and civilian families each season.

Furthermore, PenFed and the Nationals have established a “Tickets For Troops” program which will make a select number of complimentary tickets available for military members to all regular season home games at Nationals Park.

Active duty, veterans, retired military and Department of Defense civilians can claim tickets online then pick them up in person on the day of the game.

The new PenFed Military Appreciation Section could get a significant amount of exposure right away. The section is scheduled to open for the Nats’ sold out May 15 home game against the New York Yankees. The Yankees currently have the best record in the majors and lead the American League East, while the Nationals sit in third place in the National League East, behind the Phillies and the Braves.
