Royal Credit Union, a $1.86-billion institution based in Eau Claire, Wisc., has launched a new program designed to encourage financial literacy in young people between the ages of 18 and 25.
The "Smart Connection" – which kicked off on Sept. 1 – is designed to help students "learn and grow" during the years that follow their 18th birthday, Royal CU said. The credit union added that during the key period between the ages of 18 and 25, young adults are "budgeting for higher education, a first apartment, first checking account, first car loan or first home purchase."
Megan Larsen, Smart Connection team lead; Cooper Larson, Wisconsin Smart Connection intern; and Veronica Nelson, Minnesota Smart Connection intern, will share how their stories unfold through blog posts on rcu.org and social media platforms "in hopes that others can relate," Royal CU said.
This group is engaging with the communities that Royal CU serves, as well as college campuses in western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. They will share financial education and budgeting tips on the campuses of UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, UW-Barron County, Chippewa Valley Technical College, Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College and University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
