SCE FCU Foundation Awards $12,000 In Scholarships

LOS ANGELES – The SCE Federal Credit Union Foundation launched its program to award scholarships to graduating seniors and undergraduate college students that demonstrate financial need and academic excellence as well as a commitment to their community.

For this year’s program, the Foundation partnered with four high schools and two community organizations that each recommended students based on pre-determined criteria. Of the 24 applications received, the Foundation awarded 12 scholarships, each worth $1,000 toward college tuition and related expenses.

“We are excited to launch our scholarship program and recognize these 12 outstanding students,” said Pascual Garrido, Board Chairman of the SCE FCU Foundation. “We were impressed with the caliber of scholarship recipients – not just in their academic achievements, but also their extraordinary commitment to volunteerism and leadership in extracurricular activities. They serve as role models for their work in their communities, taking action to improve the world around them.”

Students who qualify for the scholarships must meet the program criteria, which includes: genuine financial need; a high school senior or undergraduate college student at an accredited college, university or vocational school; minimum GPA of 2.5; community involvement, leadership skills or potential; and completion of an SCE FCU Foundation financial literacy workshop or online course.
