The program, called Savings for All, which is funded by a Discovery Grant through Great Falls Public Schools Foundation, gave each student $25 to open their own savings account. The credit union also kicked in $5 and offered to match up to $20 that each student saves in the first six months.

On a visit to the credit union the students were walked through the process of opening an account and they learned about how good savings habits can open up more opportunities for them.

Sixth grade teacher, Megan Murphy said the program will help the pre-teens learn important financial lessons. Students will learn through their own account how quickly money can compound if allowed to gain interest. They also learn small sacrifices like giving up a candy bar here and there how quickly it can add up.

Students also learn business etiquette. Parents are also invited to join in on the finance learning experience.
