SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -
Coffee Shop 1
(SFX: Coffee Shop)
Man 1: Anybody sitting here?
Man 2: No help yourself. Want some of the paper?
Man 1: No thanks, I ...
Waitress: What can I get you?
Man 1: Just a grilled cheese and some coffee, please.
Man 2: You been reading about this Comerica thing?
Man 1: Oh, don't get me started. Moving their headquarters to Texas of all places, where the so-called talent is supposed to be. Whatever happened to loyalty? And the real kicker is you feel so powerless. There's nothing you can do about it.
Man 2: Sure there is. You can do what I did. Join a credit union. Forget about your profitable bank and focus on your own profit for once. You see, credit unions are not for profit, meaning, it's all about their members, the customers. None of this satisfying the stockholders malarkey. Any profits a credit union makes go to the members. I'm tellin' ya, it's the best thing I did. They've given me great service, the rates are better, the fees are lower, I should've joined a credit union a long time ago, Comerica or no Comerica.
Man 1:: Sold, where do I sign?
Man 2: Easy. Go to lovemycreditunion. org.
Man 1:: So what about Comerica Park?
Man 2: You know what I think they should do ... (Fade out)
Coffee Shop 2
(SFX: Coffee Shop)
Man 2: Well, look who's here. You come back for the grilled cheese or more credit union advice? Sit down.
Man 1: Neither ... I ... just a second ... (To the waitress) lemme try the corned beef today, maybe I'll have better luck with that. Thanks. (Back to guy) Actually I went to love my credit union dot org. Joined a credit union. And so far, so good.
Man 2: I told ya. Credit unions are ...
Man 1: Hold on, I'm not finished. You know what really made it satisfying?
Comerica was one thing, but I just read where Congress is starting to look at the high rates and fees that banks charge on credit cards.
Man 2: Boy, when Uncle Sam steps in you know it's gotta be bad (chuckles).
Man 1: I know, will this profits-at-any-cost thing ever end?
Man 2: Call me old fashioned but I like the humaneness of credit unions. When times are tough they don't gouge their members with fees, they find ways to help. Did you see on the website where they save their members, what is it, 8 billion dollars annually with lower fees and better rates? What's more, they even have a program they offer, what is it, a two year interest-free education loan to develop new skills for displaced workers. I've never seen banks like Comerica offer a program like that.
Man 1: No kiddin'. Oh, about that Comerica Park idea of yours... (Fades out)
