EL PASO, Texas – GECU, formerly Government Employees CU, has applied to state regulators to expand its field of membership over state lines to serve the New Mexico counties of Dona Ana and Otero.
The $1.7 billion credit union, the sixth-biggest in Texas, currently serves residents of El Paso County or in New Mexico’s Doña Ana County, but not more than 25 miles from its existing branch.
The Cleveland-based bank is projecting steady growth in net interest income even as credit losses remain manageable. But Chairman and CEO Chris Gorman also said that he thinks a recession is likely.
