UWCU Builds Mobile Deposit Into Browser

MADISON, Wis.-Advances in browser technology have enabled $1.6 billion University of Wisconsin CU to become the first to build mobile check deposit into its mobile browser, according to Bank Technology News (an affiliate of Credit Union Journal).

"The main reason we went this way is we are web developers," said UWCU EVP Eric Bangerter. "And we didn't have to make decisions as to what devices or platforms to support."

UWCU noted it was the development of iPhones running iOS 6 and the new versions of Safari and Chrome that allowed the browsers to access the smartphones' cameras and ultimately allow for check deposit. UWCU has integrated with its back-end provider Ensenta.

The check deposit experience is akin to the mobile app with one subtle app design difference: most native apps outline the square in which a consumer can take a photo of a check, while the mobile browser does not yet come with brackets.
