CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Members of Tennessee Valley FCU were notified Friday that phone calls they may be receiving requesting personal information about their accounts are not from the credit union and should be disregarded. The so-called vishing attempts stated the credit union had temporarily suspended their payment services and urged they call a toll-free number to restore service. A recording at the toll-free number requests account numbers and PINs. Vishing is similar to Internet phishing schemes, except they are conducted by phone. Credit union officials said they are working with local law enforcement and the FBI to investigate the fraud.
