NAFCU Unveils 2010 Winners
ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU has named the six individual and two winners of its 2010 Annual Awards Competition. Federal Credit Unions of the Year: CORE FCU of East Syracuse, N.Y, (less than $150 million), and Pentagon FCU of Alexandria, Va. CEOs of the Year: Jeffrey Bocach, Advantage FCU in Rochester, N.Y. (less than $150 million), and Patrick M. McPharlin, Michigan State University FCU, East Lansing. Professionals of the Year: Diane McDuff, Main Street Financial FCU in Denham Springs, La. (less than $150 million), and Susan R. Ward, Finance Center FCU in Indianapolis, Ind. Volunteers of the Year: Patsy Koenig, Washington Gas Light FCU in Springfield, Va. (less than $150 million), and Col. Frederick Walters, Randolph-Brooks FCU in Live Oak, Texas. Winners will be recognized at NAFCU's annual meeting in July in Chicago.Separately, Bob Marquette, CEO of Members 1st FCU in Mechanicsburg, Penn., and Ed Templeton, CEO of SRP FCU in North Augusta, S.C., have been re-elected to three-year terms on the NAFCU board.
Dade County FCU Takes On Keys FCU
MIAMI - Dade County FCU is absorbing via merger Keys FCU, a Key West-based CU that has been under NCUA conservatorship since last September. Keys FCU, a one-time $212 million credit union, reported losses of $1.4 million for Q1, as its assets declined to just $156 million. The $505-million Dade County reported a $430,000 loss for Q1 and is expected to receive minimal assistance from NCUA under the terms of a P&A.
CULookup.com Gets Enhancement
ARLINGTON, Va.-CULookup.com, a CU locator website sponsored by NAFCU, has added geomapping and shared-branching features.
DVD On Corporates Is Due
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA is expected to release this week a DVD that seeks to "explain, in plain English, the history of corporate credit unions, the evolution of the crisis and NCUA's proposed resolution. " The presentation is divided into three sections. It will also be available on NCUA's website (ncua.gov) effective May 31, according to the agency.
FSCC Releases Droid App
ONTARIO, Calif.-Financial Service Centers Cooperative, Inc. (FSCC) has launched the first Shared Branching locator app on the Android Market. The free app, developed by LocatorSearch LLC, is available as a free download and offers more than 6,400 FSCC locations to perform Shared Branching transactions. FSCC reported that the app had generated more than 300 downloads and more than 5,000 searches immediately after being added to the Android Market. The app sports the familiar swirl logo representing CU Service Centers.
Mich. CUs Back Hoekstra For Gov.
LANSING, Mich.-The Michigan Credit Union League has formally announced its support for U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra's bid for governor, calling the endorsement a vote for small business and for consumers. In Congress, Rep. Hoekstra has been a CU supporter.
New Fed Charter Granted
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA last week approved a new federal charter for Chippewa Eagle FCU in Mount Pleasant, Mich. to serve the approximately 7,800 people who are regular members or employees of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. The CU plans to open in August and is the second federal charter granted in 2010.
Paper Examines Value of MCIFs
MADISON, Wis.-CUs that only use their MCIFs for mailing lists are underutilizing them according to a new white paper from the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council. The paper, titled "Making the Most of MCIF Systems," examine three CUs and three vendors demonstrated that the MCIF system can help CUs explore households' profitability, identify niche markets, promote their strengths, explore their neighborhoods and track marketing results.
Guardian CU Gets New CEO
MONTGOMERY, Ala.-Heath Harrell has been named president/CEO of Guardian CU here, replacing Landel Casey who is retiring. Harrell was previsouly president/CEO at Comala CU.
CFO Council Elects Execs
MADISON, Wis.-Elected and re-elected to the CUNA CFO Council Executive Committee were: Pam Finch of Mid Minnesota FCU re-elected as chair; Dan Leclerc of Aventa CU re-elected as vice chair, and Brandon Michaels of Mazuma CU re-elected as secretary/treasurer. Also elected to the exec committee were David D'Annunzio of Heritage Trust FCU and Peg Lamb of Marine CU.
11 Women Win Scholarships
MADISON, Wis.-Eleven women from eight countries will attend the 2011 Global Women's Leadership Forum in Las Vegas in July via scholarships funded by the World Council of CU's Global Women's Leadership Network. Attending will be: Eliane Jose Ferreira, Brazil; Elenora Zgonjanin Petrovic, Macedonia; Elena Koleda, Belarus; Maria de Lourdes de Jesus Montalbo, Mexico; and Catherine Mwamba, Purity Maina, Mercy Macharia and Susan Gachora, all from Kenya. In addition, the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada will fund scholarships for Swanzie Success Mawerenga, Malawi; and Rose Angeyamgo, Uganda; and the Louisiana Credit Union League will fund a scholarship for Natalia Vydrina, Russia.For info: www.cuwomen.org.
