Long-Time Leader David Miller Dies
KALAMAZOO, Mich.-David A. Miller, the one time chairman of NAFCU, has died. Mr. Miller was 72. Miller was CEO for 43 years at Bell FCU before retiring in 2009. He as active in numerous CU associations during his career, and was active in NAFCU during the fight to get the Credit Union Membership Access Act passed by Congress.
New Brand At Philadelphia Federal
PHILADELPHIA-The $819-million Philadelphia FCU has introduced a new corporate brand, including the tagline, "Not here for our profit. Here for yours." PFCU is running ads on local buses, bus shelters, billboards, newspapers and radio to introduce its new messaging. "The branding process confirmed that the credit union's fundamental values are deeply desired by consumers who may feel residual anger towards financial institutions over the industry's role in the recession and amidst being bombarded with an increasing number of banking fees," Philadelphia Federal said.
Iowa Grants For Financial Ed
DES MOINES, Iowa-The Iowa CU Foundation is using a Financial Education Grant from the National CU Foundation to build capacity within Iowa CUs to implement financial education programs via training, technical assistance and one-time grants for financial education start-ups or expansions. Over the past year, 43 credit unions have received training, toolkits and more.
Two Postal CUs In Merger
SAN JOSE, Calif.-The $188-million Pacific Postal CU is absorbing via merger the $8.2-million East Bay Postal CU, Oakland. The $8.3-million El Camino Hospital FCU is being absorbed via merger by the $1.52-billion Provident CU, and the $235-million Mutual Security CU is absorbing via merger the $3.1-billion Connecticut Energy Employees CU, Bridgeport, Conn.
White Paper On Wellness
MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA HR/TD Council has published a new white paper that examines programs that help employees stay healthy and avoid disease, illness and accidents. "If an organization has healthy employees, not only are its health care costs lower, but the employees are happier, more productive, and higher performing, which translates to lower operating costs," notes the paper, "Credit Union Wellness Programs: Good Health Is Good Business." 75 Diamonds Being Awarded
LAKE MARY, Fla.-A young groom and his fiancée were the first of 75 members of CFE FCU who will win a half-carat diamond during CFEFCU's diamond anniversary celebration, "Dash for Diamonds." The first event was held at CFE's downtown Orlando branch, and the winner was Ryan Furman of Orlando. Furman and his fiancée were among the very first to arrive at the event, waiting almost two hours for their chance to win a diamond.
2 Countries Join WOCCU
MADISON, Wis.-The World Council of Credit Unions has two new members: Cooperativa Medica del Valle (COOMEVA), a cooperative financial holding company from Columbia, which joined as an associate member, and the Central Associatoin of Savings and Credit Associations (CASCA) from Modava, which joined as a direct member.
Connecticut Honors Two People
MERIDEN, Conn.-The Credit Union of Connecticut has named Joanne Todd, president/CEO of Northeast Family FCU, as its 2012 Connecticut Credit Union Professional of the Year, and Rosa Taylor, board chair of Hartford Healthcare FCU, as its 2012 Connecticut Credit Union Volunteer of the Year.
DuTrac Expands In Walgreens
DUBUQUE, Iowa--DuTrac Community CU has expanded its ATM network through a partnership with Walgreens. DuTrac members can withdraw cash and make balance inquiries at ATMs located within any Walgreens store throughout Iowa without a surcharge. The $551-million DuTrac has also begun branding ATMs inside the Walgreens stores in Dubuque and on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities area.
